Shell Zipper Pull

Description
The Shell Zipper Pull was inspired by medieval “ex-votos” (Latin for “from a vow”), objects that pilgrims offered at shrines during the Middle Ages in the hopes of miracles through saints’ intercession. Ex-votos were thought to be thaumaturgical, or miraculous, and could be purchased at sacred sites from nearby merchants, apothecaries, or church shops.
A shell is the symbol of the Camino. Images of shells can be found on the art, architecture, & directional markers seen along the trail. Medieval walkers sewed shells onto their hats & clothes, and large shells were given as rewards for completing the pilgrimage. Present day walkers attach shells to their backpacks at the beginning of the Camino to designate themselves as pilgrims.
