Camino Aragones:
The Quiet Way
At the start of Camino Aragones in the Pyrenees
- 100 miles long; typically takes 7-10+ days to walk; includes the regions of Aragon & Navarra. Map & route info on GRONZE.COM
- The route starts in Somport in the Pyrenees on the border of Spain & France. It connects to Camino Frances in the town of Obanos near Puente la Reina.
- The Aragones is the Spanish portion of the French route, the Via Tolosana, that begins in Arles.
- Until the 12th c. the Aragones channeled most pilgrim traffic from France & Europe; after then pilgrims walked to the north through St. Jean Pied de Port.
- In 2023 fewer than 2% of pilgrims who received Compostelas trekked the Aragones. Generally, it’s a route for more experienced walkers — the trail can be isolated with less infrastructure (albergues, etc.) and more challenging to navigate.
